4-MEO-PCP, 4-Methoxyphencyclidine, is a synthetic dissociative drug of the aryl cyclohexylamine chemical class. Its chemical composition is a cyclohexane ring with two appended rings: a piperidine ring containing nitrogen and a phenyl ring R3 position substituted with a methoxy (-OCH3) group. It is a PCP derivative and a close relative of 4MeO-PCP but is more potent.
4-MEO-PCP was initially believed to possess dopaminergic or opioid action, but subsequent research established that it is primarily a potent and selective NMDA receptor antagonist. It possesses negligible or no affinity for the µ-opioid receptor and dopamine transporter and is effectively a dissociative agent. 4-MEO-PCP first appeared in 2011 and has been utilized extensively since then for research into NMDA receptor interactions and their neuropharmacological significance.
